If you are looking for a fresher and more youthful look, we think we can help. We are pleased to offer wrinkle softening BOTOX® and Dysport® treatments.

The use of Botulinum Toxin A (BOTOX®, DYSPORT®) is becoming popular, and with good reason. It’s a quick and effective pick-me-up that softens frown lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet.

As dental professionals, we have an in-depth understanding of how faces are constructed – the musculature, bone structure, lips, mouth and teeth.  And we’re pretty adept at giving gentle injections. This puts us in a position of great experience when it comes to successfully finessing your face. It can take as little as thirty minutes and, because it’s non-surgical, there is no recovery time. And you don’t need to be a patient of the practice.

We actively encourage people to seek independent medical advice before committing themselves to treatment. Questions are always encouraged and Dr Andrew Parkman BDS Lond 2000 GDC number 78126 is only happy to carry out any facial treatments once his patients are fully educated about all the options.

Frequently asked questions

What does Botulinum Toxin A (Azzalure, Botox, Dysport) do?

When you laugh, frown, concentrate or squint, the facial muscles of the upper face cause your skin to crease. With time these creases deepen and can turn into lines which remain even when you’re relaxed. Frown lines between your eyes can become particularly noticeable, making you look angry or worried even when you’re not.

Botulinum Toxin A, when applied to these areas, temporarily immobilises the muscles that are responsible for wrinkling. The result is that your face has a more relaxed and youthful appearance.

What is Botulinum Toxin A?

Botulinum Toxin A is a purified, denatured protein that is produced by Clostridium Botulinum bacterium. It is a prescription medicine and should be handled by professionals. In medicine, Botulinum toxin is often injected directly into hyperactive muscles and is used in the management of spasticity in children.

It has been safely used for the treatment of strabismus (cross-eye) and blepharospasm (eye spasm) since the early 1980s. It’s also used in the treatment of some headaches, back pain and excessive sweating.

How does it work?

Facial expressions occur when the brain sends a signal the facial muscles. Wrinkle relaxing treatment blocks the impulse from the nerves to the facial muscles thus preventing the movement of these muscles. This relaxes the muscles for around 4 – 6 months leaving the overlying skin looking smooth and less wrinkled. It can be used to soften lines and wrinkles around the forehead, eyes, lips, chin and neck.

By targeting specific muscles, we can reduce those wrinkles that are created by frowning or crow’s feet that are formed whilst smiling. There is quite an art to rejuvenating the face in a wholly natural way.

How is it administered?

Tiny amounts of Botulinum Toxin A (Botox, Dysport) are injected into the muscles that cause the skin to crease and furrow. A disposable syringe is used. Because a very fine needle is used, most people find that there is only mild and temporary discomfort. The entire procedure usually takes no longer than a few minutes.

How long does it work for?

The initial effects of treatment become visible within 72 hours and the maximum effect is reached in about 1 to 2 weeks. Your facial expression will become more relaxed but by no means mask-like. And, by targeting select muscles, we are able to give you a fresh and natural look.

The effect of treatment generally lasts for 4 – 6 months.

Does it look natural?

The overwhelming feedback from our patients is that they are thrilled with their new fresher look. They tell us that their friends and family do not notice that they have had any treatment. But they do ask if they have been away on holiday because they look happy and rested.

We pride ourselves on taking a measured approach to each patient. Our aim is to give a natural, fresh look that is miles away from the frozen, masked look that can be associated with liberal botox application.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects of this treatment are very rare, but can include some temporary tenderness or mild bruising at the site of injection. This normally fades within an hour or so. In less than 1% of people treated with wrinkle relaxing injections, a weakness in the muscles, near to the site of injection, can occur. This can result in a slight and temporary droop of the eyelid or eyebrow. This is temporary and can be treated with eye drops.

This treatment is non-permanent with no long term side-effects. If you decide to stop having the treatment, your appearance will revert to its original state.

How much does it cost?

This depends upon the requirements of the individual. Typically treatment starts at £145.

Do I need to be a dental patient for this treatment?
